This varied course will open your eyes to a world of creative career opportunities in media make-up. Throughout this course you will develop new skills and explore different styles, helping to prepare you for a career in a varied and challenging industry.
You will gain a sound knowledge and understanding of how to professionally apply make-up to fit a theme, while learning the art of dressing hair. This qualification is approved by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), meaning you'll earn a qualification recognised throughout the industry.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to provide make-up services for bridal and occasion make-up, along with face painting techniques that can be used for festivals, events and children's parties.

Entry Criteria
3 GCSEs (9-3) including English or maths, or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 programme.
Don't meet the grades? Take a look at the Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy for a solid understanding of key areas - you will be able to progress to the Level 3 upon successful completion.

What will I study?
Work alongside industry working make-up tutors, learning top industry techniques that are used in the TV and Film industry. Get involved in a range of experiences to prepare you for a career in media make-up, including applying character make-up for all college theatre productions and college TV channel ‘Real Talk’. Benefit from regular industry talks from make-up artists within the TV and Film industry and visits to local Warner Brothers Studio for backstage workshops based on the art of movie make-up.
Units include:
- Health and safety practice – understand the principles of health and safety at work within TV and film sets, as well as freelance make-up artist practice.
- Client care and communication in beauty-related industries - develop the skills required to forge effective, long term client relationships.
- Applying make-up - provide basic make-up services to clients/ models for a variety of occasions.
- The art of photographic make-up - provide fashion and editorial make-up to clients /models for a variety of occasions.
- The art of dressing hair - develop the knowledge and skills to provide a style, dress and finished look for models.
- Creating an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector - develop the knowledge and skills in order to research, design, prepare and create a styling based on a chosen theme.
- Face and body paints - cultivate the knowledge and skills to prepare for and provide a professional face and body painting service, demonstrating a variety of designs and techniques.

Future Prospects
Start work in a junior position or progress your studies with the Level 3 programmes in Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Theatrical and Media Make-Up or Level 3 Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy.
