We take our responsibilities for the safeguarding of students very seriously. Safeguarding is essential to assure the safety and well-being of young people and adults in our College community.
For this reason the safeguarding of our students is given the highest priority – from the appointment of staff, governors, volunteers and contractors to the necessary checking procedures. This includes the curriculum itself and the College’s activities both on and off campus.
The College teams up with other services and agencies to share information and work together to protect our students from harm and to help them to achieve.
All our staff undergo regular training so that they are aware of issues and are familiar with our Safeguarding Policy and Procedures. Emma Doree, Director of Student Experience, is the College’s Designated Senior Person for Safeguarding, Child protection and Prevent, supported by a team of Officers and a designated Governor.
Our number one objective at West Herts College is to play a leading role in transforming the life chances of local people. To achieve this, it’s essential that we reach out across the communities we serve, using the best people to deliver our training and development.
It’s for these reasons that we sub-contract some of the College’s services. As of September 2022 we have three partners delivering this provision:
The responsible use of public funding is essential. We will always seek to prioritise expenditure and investment to benefit local people and our communities. Our financial statements include information about returns on financial investment and other key information.

West Herts College is leading the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) project for Hertfordshire. The DfE’s purpose for the LSIF is “to support collaborative activity between providers across an area, investment for new facilities and courses which meet local skill needs, and to support excellence in college leadership, governance and teaching.” The Department for Education has now approved the expression of interest submitted by the four Hertfordshire colleges in June 2023, which outlined our project plans. Other types of providers may be involved, especially those with specialisms relevant to the LSIP skills priorities; Those interested in discussing the possibility of participating in the LSIF should email This email address is being protected from spambots.
