  • Plan your journey
Plan your journey in advance so you arrive on time. We’ve got two campuses one in Hemel Hempstead and one in Watford. Depending on where you book to visit will depend which day and campus you will be visiting. Click the button below for all the information you need to help plan your journey to our campuses.

    Getting to college

  • Organise someone to come with you
It is useful to have someone attend with you – a parent, guardian, family or friend as there will be a lot of information to take in and this will give you someone you can discuss your visit with when deciding if the college is right for you.

  • Know what courses you are interested in before attending
Take a look at the course options here on our website beforehand to check out what you are interested in, this will help you with who to talk to on the day. If you are unsure what you would like to study speak to one of our expert career advisors on the day they will be able to help you discover a course to match your future ambitions.

    BROWSE OUR COURSES

  • Write down questions you might want to ask
When you are at an Open Day it is important to make the most of the day and have questions ready to ask staff and students, see below our list of suggested questions for:

    Staff:

    1. What qualifications will I need for this course?
    2. What does the course cover?
    3. What assessment methods are used?
    4. What are the facilities like?
    5. What have previous students gone on to do for work/university after finishing this course?
    6. Will there be work experience opportunities available?
    7. What careers guidance support is available?
    8. What student support is available?
    9. What financial support is available?
    10. How do I apply?
    11. What is the application process?
    12. Do I have to attend an interview to get on the course?
    13. Is it worth applying for more than one course?

    Students:

    1. How have you found the course so far?
    2. What is the teaching like?
    3. How are the facilities?
    4. What is the support like?
    5. What's college life like?
    6. Why should I choose West Herts College?

  • Take notes and photos
Make sure you take some notes when you are there, take photos too – this will help you reflect when choosing the best option for you.

  • Talk to students
There will be students there to show you around, it will be useful to ask them about their experience at the college too, the chance to talk with students is one of the best ways to learn about the strength of the teaching and whether they are enjoying it.
