Our 1st and 2nd year Dance students recently took centre stage , showcasing their talent, creativity and the skills they have developed throughout the year.

The production, which took place in Watersmeet Theatre, Rickmansworth, put a modern twist on the classic ballet Giselle, giving students the opportunity to showcase the wide range of dance styles they have learned throughout their course.

The production brought together ballet, contemporary, jazz, urban and tap, with choreography from four of the course’s tutors. A variety of music and styles helped create a dynamic performance, with something to appeal to audiences of all ages.

Behind the scenes, students worked hard in the lead-up to the show, with many performing in multiple numbers. Rehearsals required plenty of commitment and teamwork, as students gradually brought the different elements of the production together and developed their understanding of the story.

As the performance came together, students were able to develop not only their dance technique, but also their acting, confidence and storytelling skills.

The hard work paid off when students took to the stage, delivering a confident and engaging performance for their audience.

Tutor and 2nd year Dance Leader, Sue Wright, who produced and choreographed a selection of the numbers in Giselle, said:

“I was absolutely thrilled with them. They really pulled out all the stops. It was a challenge for them, but they utilised their acting brilliantly.”

Taking the Next Step

For some students, the end-of-year show marks the beginning of their next chapter in dance. Recent 2nd year students have successfully gained places at Dance schools and academies across the country to continue their studies at degree level, with aspirations to progress into the professional dance industry. These dance schools include London Contemporary Dance School, London Studio Centre, Shockout Studios, Urdang, The Place London, Creative Academy, Stella Mann and Addict Academy.

For anyone considering a future in dance, Sue encourages prospective students to explore what the course has to offer:

“Do it - come along and see us. It’s a great course if you love dance. You’ll build confidence, stamina and flexibility, improve your posture and the way that you stand. Dancers always have a certain look – and they always look fabulous!”
