Meet Joseph David-Payne, an alumnus of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts: Dance.

Max Nash

Joseph’s ambition to become a performer combined with his raw talent for dance and how creative the course is, are what encouraged him to study at West Herts College.

The number of opportunities that were provided on the Dance course, such as trips to drama schools and the variety of shows that he studied were particular highlights. Joseph noted that being able to choreograph and collaborate were key skills which helped him gain the confidence to secure his place at a top drama school once he left college.

Joseph studied a BA(Hons) in Musical Theatre at Performers College, graduating early in 2022. He joined the cast for the UK tour of ‘In The Night Garden Live’ and has since worked in a variety of different roles including, plays, pantomime, film and ballet - most notably his role in the Birmingham Royal Ballet performance of ‘Swan Lake’.

Reflecting on his time at college, Joseph says:

“The Dance course is a great steppingstone towards drama school, if you want to become a performer, the life skills learnt during the two years after leaving school really benefited me. If you’re wanting to get into the industry, you have to absolutely 100% believe in yourself and you will be successful!”
