An introduction to the world of travel, tourism and aviation. Develop strong communication skills and learn about the world of career opportunities available in this sector. There will be trips and specialist talks such as air crew and aircrash investigation workshops to further develop your knowledge.

  • Entry Criteria

    To enrol on a Level 1 Diploma, applicants should demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and a commitment to developing the fundamental skills required for their chosen area of study. Typically, applicants will have:

    • Studied a GCSE programme or be able to demonstrate that they are working at or towards Level 1.

    Applicants without formal qualifications may be invited to complete an initial assessment in English and maths to determine the most suitable level of study.

  • What will I study?

    You can look forward to a range of interesting subjects including:


    • Displaying travel and tourism products - gain knowledge of the products and services offered by the travel and tourism industry. Examine different features of promotional displays and plan, produce and review materials for a travel and tourism product or service


    • Planning trips to attractions - develop knowledge of visitor attractions and work-related skills by planning and costing a day trip to a visitor attraction


    • UK travel destinations - develop knowledge of different types of UK tourist destinations and why people visit the UK


    • Recommending a package holiday - understand the components of a standard package holiday and the types of information required when recommending and booking package holidays


    • The role of cabin crew - gain an overview of the skills, experience and qualities required by the airline industry when appointing cabin crew. Learn practical skills when dealing with customer service situations and when carrying out a health and safety demonstration


    • The role of an overseas representative - understand the role of the overseas resort representative and how they must project a positive image as part of their role


    • Planning an event - have the opportunity to work as a team in planning, participating in and reviewing an event


    • Jobs in travel and tourism - gain an idea of what it would be like to work in the travel and tourism industry and discuss the different career options within the travel industry

  • Future Prospects

    You can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Travel and Tourism or Aviation. With further training you can look for jobs in travel agencies, airline customer services, hospitality and tour operators.
