Get active, get career minded. Tailor your study for entry-level work in the sport, fitness and leisure industries. You will be provided with a grounding for basic skills and practices within the sports & fitness industries on both a practical and theoretical basis.

Entry Criteria
To enrol on a Level 1 Diploma, applicants should demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and a commitment to developing the fundamental skills required for their chosen area of study. Typically, applicants will have:
- Studied a GCSE programme or be able to demonstrate that they are working at or towards Level 1.
Applicants without formal qualifications may be invited to complete an initial assessment in English and maths to determine the most suitable level of study.

What will I study?
You will study a number of subjects including:
• Assisting in the planning, delivery and evaluation of an activity - Reviewing own performance and that of others: evaluating performance of skills.
• Leading a healthy lifestyle - develop the skills needed to make active and healthy lifestyle recommendations to a specific individual.
• Participating in sport - Becoming more skilful in sport takes time and focus, and you will have lots of opportunity to participate in sport and develop your performance.
• Improving personal exercise and fitness – develop personal skills and the qualities of a coach.
• Understanding the active leisure and learning sector - progress by focusing on the development of transferable and sector-related skills.
• Components and functions of the body in physical activity - Consideration of body position, e.g. position of head, angles and placement of legs and arms, where to connect with ball. -
Future Prospects
You’ll be able to continue your studies with a [BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport]https://www.westherts.ac.uk/courses/school-leavers/sport/level-2-extended-certificate-diploma-in-sport) or Public Services. You can also start work in a leisure centre as a sports coach assistant.
