At some point we all need the services of a plumber. Take your first steps towards a career in a constantly evolving industry with a huge demand for qualified engineers. This course will help you to develop both your theory and practical skills.

  • Entry Criteria

    To enrol on a Level 1 Diploma, applicants should demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and a commitment to developing the fundamental skills required for their chosen area of study. Typically, applicants will have:

    • Studied a GCSE programme or be able to demonstrate that they are working at or towards Level 1.

    Applicants without formal qualifications may be invited to complete an initial assessment in English and maths to determine the most suitable level of study.

  • What will I study?

    This course covers the principles and practical aspects of domestic plumbing. It combines the practical skills of pipe bending and joining with knowledge of basic plumbing systems layout and installation.

    You will study the following mandatory units:


    • Structure of the construction industry
    • Fundamental safe working practices
    • Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
    • Site preparation for working in the construction industry
    • Above ground drainage
    • Copper pipework
    • Plastic pressure pipework
    • Low carbon steel pipework
    • Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
    • Plumbing science

  • Future Prospects

    Successful students progress to City and Guilds courses at Level 2 in Plumbing.
