The world of media is fast paced, exciting and continually evolving. This course can help you take your first steps towards a career in the digital media industry. You will gain a broad knowledge of the industry and will develop essential skills that could lead to employment in a wide range of job roles across the creative digital media sectors.

This course is industry recognised by ScreenSkills, the industry-led skills body for the UK's screen-based industries and carries the ScreenSkills Select quality-mark which indicates courses best suited to prepare students for a career in the screen industries.

  • Entry Criteria

    3 GCSEs (A*-D/9-3) including English or completion of a Level 1 programme.

  • What will I study?

    You’ll study the following core and mandatory units:


    • Digital media sectors and audiences
    • Planning and pitching a digital media product
    • Final digital production project
    • Media industry in context
    • Deconstruction media products

    You’ll also be able to choose from optional specialist units, and are required to pick 2 from the following:


    • Digital moving image production
    • Digital audio production
    • Digital publishing production
    • Website production
    • Digital games production

    As well as 4-6 other optional units, including:


    • Digital editing for moving image
    • Advertising production
    • Factual media production
    • Digital audio editing
    • Writing for digital media
    • Digital games testing
    • Lighting for moving image

    Live briefs will focus your thoughts and project time, whether you’re working in teams or alone to plan and produce audio-visual media.

  • Future Prospects

    Your study options include Level 3 Extended diploma courses in: TV & Film, Photography. Possible careers include junior positions in film or TV industry, photography, sound creation or the advertising industry.
