Essential Computing - Intermediate
Introduction
Building on your previous skills you will use Microsoft Word to create professional documents. As well as using other office applications such as Excel and PowerPoint. You will create folders to organise your work and look at safeguarding when using email.
A course handbook will be provided. Please bring your own memory stick to each lesson to enable you to save your work.

Entry Criteria
Ideally students would have completed the Beginners course. However, you must be able to use a computer and be familiar with using Microsoft Office. It would also be useful to have experience using the internet.
Our part-time provision is designed primarily for adult students, aged 19 and over. Students aged 16 to 18 may be allowed to enrol on the course at the discretion of the Head of Admissions and Head of School. If you have any queries please contact our admissions team on 01923 812345. -
What will I study?
During the course you will continue to use your previous knowledge of Word to learn the following:
- Using and editing tables
- Other Word functions, such as using columns
- Understanding how to use templates, and editing them to create your own documents
- Taking information from other sources, and using them in your documents
You will also learn to use some of the other Microsoft applications, such as Excel and PowerPoint, as well as using the College on-line learning environment to access resources and develop your computer knowledge.
Please note – if you are studying at West Herts College, Watford or Hemel Hempstead campuses, the software used is Microsoft Office 2016. Other venues, including Hertfordshire Libraries are using Microsoft Office 2010.
