Essential Computing - Advanced
Introduction
This course is ideal for those who already have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office and want to learn additional skills useful in the workplace and at home.
You will learn how to use some of the more advanced functions of Microsoft Office such as mail merge in Word, creating Formulas and charts in Excel, creating a presentation with Music and Video in PowerPoint as well as using Microsoft Publisher to create greetings cards, flyers and calendars. You will also look at how to protect your computer.
A course handbook will be provided. Please bring your own memory stick to each lesson to enable you to save your work.

Entry Criteria
The course is suitable for those who have completed the Essential Computing - Intermediate course, and ideally students would have completed this before enrolling on the Advanced course. Students should be confident users of Microsoft Word, as well as having some knowledge of using the internet.
Our part-time provision is designed primarily for adult students, aged 19 and over. Students aged 16 to 18 may be allowed to enrol on the course at the discretion of the Head of Admissions and Head of School. If you have any queries please contact our admissions team on 01923 812345. -
What will I study?
You will learn additional skills useful for the workplace and at home by using some of the more advanced functions of Microsoft Office 2016. These include such things as mail merge and creating charts. You will also use Microsoft Publisher to create greetings cards, flyers and calendars.
The course content may vary according to which tutor is teaching this course, also the content may be adapted to meet the needs of the class.
Please note – if you are studying at West Herts College, Watford or Hemel Hempstead campuses, the software used is Microsoft Office 2016. Other venues, including Hertfordshire Libraries are using Microsoft Office 2010.
