3D Render Artist
Meet Sam, a former student on the 3D Design course at West Herts College.
When considering his career, Sam had a keen interest in using 3D design to create practical products that would be part of people’s everyday lives. With this ambition in mind, he looked for a route of study that would support his goals and guide his future path.
Sam was drawn to West Herts College because of its modern facilities and informative workshops. Combined with its proximity to his hometown, the College proved to be an ideal fit for his preferences and learning needs. He decided to apply for the 3D Design course, taking the first step into the world of design.
He described his time at college as a valuable experience that equipped him with a wide range of skills and laid a strong foundation for his career as a designer. The encouragement to explore projects he was passionate about, combined with his tutor’s guidance and teaching methods, helped steer him in the right direction for his career. The experience provided him with a strong foundation in product design and motivated him to go on and study Product Design at De Montfort University, Leicester.
Sam is currently working as a 3D Render Artist for an industry-leading brand of professional AV mounting solutions, where he transforms 3D models into high-quality visual representations of their products.
Sam advises aspiring designers to stay curious, embrace new software, and develop a strong eye for aesthetics. He knows you won’t always get it right the first time, but learning through iterations is key. College taught him that every project, whether easy or challenging, helps you grow and move closer to your goals.
He also offers practical advice for anyone considering a career in design: “Don’t let perfectionism hold you back and focus on what you’re passionate about rather than what you think will pay best. Happiness in your work makes the day go faster - and that means you get to do what you love sooner.”
