Architecture and Interior Design Student
Meet Lily-Mae, one of our current students studying Architecture and Interior Design, who is building the foundations for her future career in architecture.
While considering her next steps at school, Lily-Mae realised she wanted an environment that offered greater independence and creative freedom than a traditional classroom setting, allowing her to focus more fully on her interests and ambitions. She chose this course because she has always known she wanted to pursue architecture as her career path. The programme gives her the opportunity to begin that journey, combining creative exploration with practical, industry-relevant skills.
Lily-Mae particularly enjoys the flexibility, creativity and challenge the course brings. Each brief encourages her to think critically, experiment with ideas and refine her design approach. Throughout her studies, she has developed strong CAD skills, including SketchUp and Adobe Photoshop, alongside hands-on model-making techniques. These practical skills are helping her confidently bring concepts to life and prepare for progression into the industry.
For Lily-Mae, following your heart is key when choosing a career path. She encourages others to pursue what genuinely interests them and not be afraid to take that first step towards it. She also believes that if you put in the effort, you’ll see the results - something she applies to every project and deadline.
Describing her time at West Herts College as positive and freeing, Lily-Mae values the supportive environment that enables her to stay focused on her ambitions. With a clear vision and passion for design, she is transforming that ambition into action and taking confident steps towards a successful career in architecture.
