Meet Jovan Baines, a recent graduate of the Foundation Degree in Business
Management at West Herts College.
Jovan chose this course because of its coursework-based structure, which offered
greater variety and reduced the pressure of traditional exams. This approach allowed
him to engage more fully with his studies while building a strong understanding of
business practice.
Throughout the course, Jovan developed valuable transferable skills, particularly time
management, as he balanced multiple deadlines. He also strengthened his
communication and people skills by working with new classmates and collaborating
closely with lecturers.
Reflecting on his graduation, Jovan describes the experience as a “once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity” and encourages others to approach it with an open mind. For Jovan, the
journey was about embracing the experience rather than setting expectations, allowing
him to grow both academically and personally.
Jovan’s advice to others considering the same path is:
“Go in with an open mind. Don’t set expectations — everyone’s experience is different.
Just enjoy it and go with the flow.”
