Our Access to Higher Education courses are designed for people who lack the traditional qualifications required for direct entry into university study. These courses will develop not only your knowledge, but your skills and confidence too! Here’s how we can support you on an Access course:
-
Getting back into the swing of learning
Many Access to Higher Education students have been out of education for a long time, our tutors are specialists at helping students get back into working academically. You can rest assured that you’ll be supported in a group of like-minded people all working towards similar goals.
-
Fast track your ambitions
In just one year of study you’ll have the skills, knowledge and confidence to take on a degree at university. Access to Higher Education is one of the fastest and thorough ways to change your career or get qualified in your chosen field.
-
Fees and funding
You may be eligible for an Access to HE course loan. If you complete your Access to HE course and then go on and complete a degree or other recognised higher education course, you won't have to repay the Access to HE course loan.
There is also more information on Advanced Learning Loans and repayment arrangements on the Government website.
-
Backed by university
An Access to Higher Education course is a legitimate route into higher education – universities are directly involved in the creation of courses and many actively encourage applications from Access to HE Diploma holders.
-
Using computers
If you’re not confident with computers, an Access course helps you to get up to speed quickly with the basics and start building upon your digital skills. At college we have plenty of resources to help you develop your digital skills and our Study Plus team can provide extra 1:1 support to help you with your assignments.
-
Supporting your UCAS application
Tutors will support you through your application and the interview process. You will also have the opportunity to visit different universities and attend their workshops to support your application. You’ll also receive support from our dedicated Careers Advice and Guidance team on how to best prepare and submit your UCAS application, we have resources on how to nail your personal statements, and applications.
-
Full-time but flexible
Most Access students combine their studies with part-time work or other commitments. You will be in college three days and will need to make time to self-study, an additional 12-15 hours per week can be expected.
