Level 2 Photography student Denzel Fitzgerald from West Herts College recently showcased his work at The Gallery in Chipping Barnet Library, marking a significant milestone in his creative journey. The exhibition gave Denzel the opportunity to present his photography to the public in a professional gallery setting.
Chipping Barnet Library is a valued community hub, providing study spaces, printing and access to digital resources, as well as a dedicated gallery space that enables local artists to exhibit their work. The venue offers an accessible and welcoming environment where creativity, learning and wellbeing are actively encouraged.
Denzel’s exhibition, titled ‘A View of the World’ was a fantastic chance for him to showcase his photography. There was not a set brief for this, but he focused his photos of nature, as well as the outdoor environments.
This exhibition was brought together by Chipping Barnet Library and Barnet Council, who spoke to Denzel and the College.
The team at Barnet Council who supported Denzel with this project said:
“He (Denzel) is the first teen to have gallery space at Chipping, which is such an achievement. Well done, Denzel. We are very proud of you!”
Exhibitions such as these play a vital part in preparing our photography students for their next steps, by gaining real-world experience within their industries, creative confidence, as well as developing their photography portfolios.
Denzel says of the exhibition:
“I feel like having my work displayed for the public is a really good step at getting my work out there so my career in photography can grow”.
Hannah Wilson and Jason Lock, Photography Tutors at West Herts College, said:
“Denzel is a bright and creative student who consistently pushes himself to experiment with new photography techniques across both film and digital media. We are incredibly proud to see his work featured in the photography exhibition at Chipping Barnet Library and now highlighted on the West Herts College social media channels. His achievement reflects both his passion for photography and his dedication to developing his creative practice”.
Partnerships like these are invaluable in creating meaningful and practical learning opportunities for our students, such as Denzel, to prepare for their next steps.
