Our Level 1 and 2 Public Services students recently had the opportunity to visit Watford Police Station as part of their ongoing studies into local public service roles. The visit supported their coursework, which focuses on exploring various public service careers and understanding the skills and personal attributes required to succeed in these fields.
During the trip, students toured the operational police station and gained first-hand insight into the daily responsibilities of police officers. They explored the tools and equipment officers use, both on duty and within their vehicles, and had the chance to examine police vehicles and the essential equipment they carry.
The visit also included interactive sessions with officers, who shared their professional experiences and provided detailed information about the structure and functions of different departments within the station. This allowed students to gain a broader understanding of the diverse roles within the police force.
Public Services tutor, Gloria Ogunfowokan, said: “This trip proved to be very beneficial to students, and even myself as a teacher, we were left inspired by the officers and their constant sacrifice daily. Students who were planning to go into the police, felt equipped with the knowledge that they would need to get into the police in a year or two and knowledge of the various departments in the police. Students also gained knowledge of the different stages that they will go through when they join the police, from training, mentorship, etc. It was a very rewarding time with the police officers.”
This visit forms part of the college’s commitment to providing real-world learning experiences that prepare students for future careers in public services.
