Public Services Alumnus James Duffy is proof hard work pays off, as he secures a place at Loughborough University, one of the UK's top research institutions.
James successfully progressed from a Level 1 course at West Herts College to most recently securing a place at one of the UK’s top research universities, Loughborough University to continue his Public Services education.
James’ journey with the College began in Year 10 when he took part in a college taster day arranged by his secondary school. Despite having a learning difficulty, James persevered and completed his Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 in Public Services, such was James’ fascination for the subject area, he took his studies to degree-level on the HND in Public Services.
Over the years and with the guidance of his tutors, James developed a real passion for the industry. A pivotal moment for James occurred while studying a unit on organisational management structures, this theoretical module allowed James to understand the career routes open to him in the Public Services industry.
He cites the masterclasses he took part in as part of the GAP programme as great opportunities to interact directly with employers and professionals within the industry. He shares “I found the masterclass with the Metropolitan Police truly insightful, as it was filled with words of wisdom and the guests offered great advice”.
Now James has completed his HND with West Herts College, he will complete his degree with a top-up year at Loughborough University studying Public Services Management.
