Players and coaches from West Herts College men’s football programme recently came together to commemorate all their success at the team’s annual End of Year Presentation.
There was much to celebrate this season – fourteen wins, a six-game winning streak and a massive 9-0 victory in their opening match. However, the crowning achievement this year was being the first West Herts College team to win the league in over twenty years since the football programme begun.
The first-team squad, consisting of both first-year and second-year students, compete in an under-19 division run by the Tactic League and play against teams from all over the South of England.
The West Herts team earned a hard-fought victory this season, defeating opponents from all over the region – including a team that had won the league for the last two consecutive years.
Jason Ivory, one of the coaches on the college football programme, shared his thoughts on the team’s success: “This season was tough as everyone wants to beat you once you are at the top, but it was also enjoyable as this helped galvanise our players to push until the end.”
Saim, who won Player’s Player of the season at the presentation, gave some advice to those who may wish to follow in his footsteps: “For anyone that is planning on doing the same course as me, I would say it is a great choice if you like playing football and learning about football itself. I learned how to become a better coach as we would hold coaching sessions whilst training.”
