Our Media Make-Up students recently had a fantastic chance to learn from James Olney, a talented prosthetic make-up artist with years of experience in the Film and TV industry. James has worked across many areas, including prosthetics, sculpture, prop making, and workshop fabrication. His visit gave students a real look into what it’s like to work in the creative industries and the skills needed to succeed.
During the session, James demonstrated how to create and apply Bondo prosthetic moulds, which is a key technique used on professional film and television sets. Bondo moulds are often used for quick but realistic prosthetic applications, making them a must-have skill for make-up artists working in special effects.
Students were able to get hands-on experience, trying the process for themselves and learning useful tips and tricks directly from James. They also had the chance to ask questions about his work, the tools he uses, and what life is like on a production set.
The session was an inspiring and practical learning experience, giving students a deeper understanding of the professional techniques used in the industry and boosting their confidence in prosthetic make-up work. The college is proud to offer opportunities like this, helping students gain real industry knowledge and prepare for exciting creative careers
