Apprentice Emergency Medical Technician

Meet Luke, a former Level 3 Health and Social Care student.

Having always known he wanted to pursue a career in the paramedics, Luke decided the Health and Social Care course was the perfect steppingstone to get there.

During the course, Luke gained a vast amount of knowledge within healthcare, such as key terms in anatomy and physiology. It also introduced him to areas, including medical conditions, how the mind works and different roles within the healthcare sector.

In the last year of his course, his tutors suggested that he should volunteer at Watford Hospital, in which he undertook the role of receptionist in Accident and Emergency. Luke even continued this role for a year after completing his course.

Now, Luke is an Apprentice Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), working on the frontline of an ambulance, playing a part in saving lives and on the path to becoming a qualified paramedic.

Reflecting on his time at college, Luke praises his personal tutor for their support in ensuring he was on the right path and considering all his options. Luke said: “I would definitely recommend this course, as it helped me to start my career in the paramedics, with great guidance from the tutors. I learned so much that I never would have known!”
