Our Level 3 Film and TV and Level 3 Digital Content students took part in an inspiring industry visit to the University of Hertfordshire as part of the Propeller Stages Project. The visit offered students a valuable opportunity to experience a professional screen environment first hand and gain insight into the expectations of working within the Film and Television industries.

Throughout the day, students were given a guided tour of the university’s state-of-the-art studio facilities, allowing them to see how large-scale productions operate behind the scenes. They also took part in a series of informative sessions focused on becoming production ready, covering essential professional skills such as on-set conduct, set etiquette, and the standards expected by employers within the screen industries.

In addition to learning about professional behaviour, students gained hands-on exposure to industry standard film kit and equipment, helping them better understand the technical demands of working on set. Important topics such as safeguarding, wellbeing in production environments, and maintaining professionalism under pressure were also explored, ensuring students are well prepared for the realities of working in fast-paced creative settings.

A key focus of the visit was helping students understand what production companies are really looking for when recruiting new talent. By hearing directly from industry professionals and education partners, students were able to gain clarity on potential career pathways and the skills, attitudes, and commitment needed to succeed in Film and TV.

The Propeller Stages Project is supported by major industry partners, including Sky Studios, and is designed to create meaningful routes into paid, credited work within the screen industries. Opportunities like this play a vital role in bridging the gap between education and employment, giving students the confidence, knowledge, and practical insight needed to take their next steps into creative careers.

This visit was an invaluable experience for our students and forms part of our ongoing commitment to providing high quality opportunities that prepare students for successful futures in the creative sector.
