Meet Lily-May Symonds, a former Creative Media and Digital Journalism student who has started a career as a Social Media Journalist at BBC Three Counties Radio
Lily-May studied Level 3 Creative Media and Digital Journalism at West Herts College, paving the way Choosing this path due to her interest in current affairs, Lily-May's college highlight was being part of the talk show "Real Talk", where she served as presenter and VT host.
Her tutor, Joe, played a pivotal role in developing her passion for presenting and production.
At BBC Three Counties Radio Lily-May hosts a variety of radio shows and produces podcasts, including one on women in sports. She finds her work to be "so much fun", noting that every day brings new experiences.
Her college education taught her valuable skills in structuring news articles and editing videos, which she now applies to her role in editing and captioning social media posts. She states that “the course has also given me the confidence that I needed to excel in my role.”
Reflecting on her journey, Lily-May advises students to maintain connections with classmates and tutors. For those aspiring to a career in radio, she suggests that you should "build up your portfolio and if you want to present on the radio, start now by contacting your local community station or even start your own podcast”.
