Meet Camilla, whose life changed entirely after studying ceramics here at West Herts College.
Camilla initially studied an Access to Art course at college, in which she found her love of ceramics. After feeling isolated and lonely, once her children had started school, she decided it was time to do something for herself.
After making the decision to return to education and enrol on a part-time ceramics course, Camilla found that it quickly became her new passion, that took over her life and gave her a purpose that was no longer about looking after other people.
Working together with classmates and inspiring and supporting each other, allowed Camilla to build friendships and a wonderful social life. Camilla found ceramics extremely therapeutic and it made her feel good about herself.
She thrived on the ceramics course, selling her pieces within the first year of the course. She also took part in an end of year show and even had one of her pieces displayed in the special exhibition tent at the Living Crafts Fair. Ceramics has opened up a completely new world for Camilla and her ambition is to become a full-time potter.
Reflecting on her time at college, Camilla said: “If you want to change your life, I suggest going back to college. Choosing something you had always wanted to do or never even thought of doing. And just going for it, it will change your world. Go and do it and make the most of it. Thoroughly enjoy yourself”.
