Meet Armaan, a Business student who has turned his BTEC qualification into a promising career in Financial Asset Management.
After attempting to study A Levels and realising they were not the best route for him, Armaan turned to a Business course at college, he realised he would have better success on a pathway that allowed him to entirely centre his focus on just one subject.
Armaan completed his qualification as a Distinction student which carried enough UCAS points to progress to university to study Accounting and Finance at the University of York, which he felt was a direct extension of his BTEC Diploma: “In some cases, the university modules shared identical content”. Armaan graduated from the University of York with a first-class degree.
Armaan reflects that completing on-the-job training at West Herts College provided him with an advantage over his peers at university, as it equipped him with the necessary skills to enable him to secure an internship as an Investment Analyst at one of the UK’s largest asset management companies.
After graduating, Armaan worked in the private equity sector for a year and a half, managing £4bn in assets with a team of five. He then transitioned into the public equity markets where he currently works as a Junior Portfolio Manager, managing a £4.5bn fund over 50 different stock options.
