The Product Design and Craft course adopts a material-focused, experimental philosophy, encouraging a learn-through-creation approach to design. The course is all about creativity for the real world and challenging how you design products and crafts, enhancing our everyday interactions with objects. You will use a range of traditional and contemporary techniques including drawing, making and CAD to communicate your ideas.
Study in our diverse workshops and studios packed with all the equipment you'll need to succeed. Get your hands on our industry leading 3D printers to bring your designs to life with CAD software and develop your ideas using wide-ranging materials and techniques.
Few creative industries are growing as fast as the design sector and the opportunities for product designers are immense.

Entry Criteria
4 GCSEs (A*-C/9-4) including English or maths, or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 Diploma, and a portfolio work.
Don't meet the grades? Take a look at the Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design for a solid understanding of key areas - you will be able to progress to the Level 3 upon successful completion.

• Automotive and transport designIn the second year of study you will be equipped to specialise in your chosen pathway after exploring exciting live briefs.
You will study towards the Level 3 Diploma (90 credits) in your first year, and progress on to the Extended Diploma (180 credits) in your second year. Whichever pathway you choose to specialise in you will be well equipped to progress to top universities, alternatively you can continue your studies here at West Herts College by choosing our Foundation Diploma or HND in Graphic Design.

Future Prospects
Successful students can progress into work in junior positions in product or furniture design, model making, theatre design or jewellery design.
Further study options include Foundation degrees or Honours degrees in 3D designs specialisms at university. Over 80% of our students progress to university to study a BA/BSc (Hons) degree.
