Sewing and dressmaking is a fun and useful life skill. Knowing how to sew can save you money, has many practical applications, and is a great way to express your creativity.

This course is designed for students who have already completed the Sewing and Dressmaking – beginner course or have a basic knowledge and understanding of sewing. The course is full of helpful tips to build up your confidence.

It’s a fun social session with lots of opportunities for meeting like-minded people and sharing ideas.

    There are no entry requirements for this course just a creative mind and a passion for sewing.

  • What will I study?

    During this 10 week course you will work on a project of your choice, aimed at developing your skills in cutting out, adapting existing patterns, as well as, covering a variety of techniques to create a professionally finished garment/s, including how to fit a garment.

    The course is taught by a team of professional dressmakers with over 15 years of industry experience creating day wear, bridal and West End theatre costumes.

    You will learn intermediate sewing skills in:

    • Sewing seams and seam finishes
    • Inserting zips
    • Buttonholes
    • Interfacing
    • Pressing?
    • Fitting?
    • Fabrics and their uses
    • Hand sewing and machining techniques?
    • Sewing tools and their correct uses?
    • Adapting patterns
    • And much more!?

    What you need to bring

    You will need to bring a basic sewing kit consisting of pins, fabric scissors, paper scissors, hand sewing needles, thread and measuring tape. You will also need to provide a pattern, fabric and all sewing notions for your chosen project.

    You will learn beginner sewing skills in:

    • Sewing seams and seam finishes?

    • Pressing
    • Fitting
    • Fabrics and their uses
    • Hand sewing and machining techniques

    What you need to bring

    In the first class will learn how to use the machines and choose your project. You won’t need to bring anything to the first class.

    From the second week, you will be required to bring a basic sewing kit consisting of pins, fabric scissors, paper scissors, hand-sewing needles, thread and measuring tape. You will also need to provide a pattern, fabric and all sewing notions for your chosen project. This will be explained to you during your first session.
