  • What will I study?

On this course you will work on a simple project of your choice such as a top, skirt or pyjamas. Over the 10 weeks, you will build up skills in cutting out, understanding a pattern and how to measure. You will develop skills in a variety of techniques including seams and seam finishes, interfacing, basic fitting, buttonholes and zips.

The course is taught by a team of professional dressmakers with over 15 years of industry experience creating daywear, bridal and West End theatre costumes.

You will learn beginner sewing skills in:

    • Choosing a pattern
    • Fabrics and their uses
    • Measuring and fitting
    • Sewing tools and their correct uses
    • Sewing seams and seam finishing
    • Pressing
    • Creating buttonholes
    • Hemming
    • And much more!

    What you need to bring

In the first class will learn how to use the machines and choose your project. You won’t need to bring anything to the first class.

From the second week, you will be required to bring a basic sewing kit consisting of pins, fabric scissors, paper scissors, hand-sewing needles, thread and measuring tape. You will also need to provide a pattern, fabric and all sewing notions for your chosen project. This will be explained to you during your first session.
