This course is designed for students who have previously completed the intermediate dressmaking classes or already have a good understanding of dressmaking but are looking to develop their pattern-cutting skills and construction techniques.

It’s a fun social session with lots of opportunities for meeting like-minded people and sharing ideas.

  • Entry Criteria

    There are no entry requirements this course, you just need a creative mind and a passion for sewing.

  • What will I study?

    During this 10-week course you will work on multiple projects of your choice, Developing your skills in a variety of advanced techniques and finishes.

    You will also be introduced to pattern cutting. This will involve understanding a basic block, how to manipulate darts, create style lines and seams, eventually giving you the skills and confidence to make your own designs and patterns.

    We will also cover how to draft your own personal block to your measurements and toile and fit this for future use.?

    The course is taught by a team of professional dressmakers with over 15 years of industry experience creating daywear, bridal and West End theatre costumes.

    You will learn advanced sewing skills in:

    • Sewing seams and seam finishes?
    • Inserting zips?
    • Buttonholes?
    • Interfacing?
    • Pressing?
    • Fitting?
    • Fabrics and their uses?
    • Hand sewing and machining techniques
    • Sewing tools and their correct uses?
    • Adapting patterns
    • And much more!?

    What you need to bring

    You will need to bring a basic sewing kit consisting of pins, fabric scissors, paper scissors, hand sewing needles, thread, measuring tape, pens, pencils, masking tape, a ring binder folder and A4 card for your patterns. You will also need to provide a pattern, fabric and all sewing notions for your chosen project.
