This introductory course will help you develop the essential skills and confidence to start using Excel for everyday tasks, work and personal use.

You will learn what spreadsheets are, how they are used and how to create and work with simple spreadsheets. You will also be introduced to basic formulas and calculations, as well as how to format your spreadsheets so that information is clear, accurate and easy to understand.

This course is suitable for beginners and anyone who would like to develop their basic Excel skills.

  • Entry Criteria

    Ideally students would have used a computer before and have basic computer skills.

    You will need to have a Hertfordshire postcode due to this course being Hertfordshire funded.

  • What will I study?

    During the course, you will learn how to:


    • Understand what spreadsheets are and how they can be used
    • Navigate and work within an Excel spreadsheet
    • Create simple spreadsheets
    • Use basic formulas for calculations
    • Enter and manage data accurately
    • Format information to make your spreadsheet clear and easy to read
    • Use currency formatting and other basic formatting tools
    • Add and use footers
    • Prepare spreadsheets for printing, including using gridlines
    • Develop your confidence using Excel for everyday tasks
