Extended Degree in Science Initial Year – Geography and Environmental Sciences is a one-year programme to prepare you for university. This course focuses on teaching you the fundamentals of applied science in your chosen Geography and Environmental Sciences specialism, allowing you to develop your understanding and helping you to reach an exciting range of innovative career paths.

The course is designed as a preparatory year enabling you to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills you need to progress to the first year of a University of Hertfordshire undergraduate degree. After working in our industry-standard lab you’ll be prepared to step on to a full degree in your chosen discipline.

We have a range of high-level, specialist facilities including a UV visible spectrophotometer, DNA PCR machine and a gel electrophoresis analysis kit. In addition to this we have a state of the art Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) allowing you to carry out industry specific practical’s.

  • Entry Criteria

    48 UCAS points including a Grade C/4 in GCSE English, GCSE Maths and GCSE Science.

    Applications are also welcomed from mature applicants who are considered on the basis of employment experience in addition to formal qualifications.

  • What will I study?

    Each module that you study is designed and taught by subject specialists with industry experience giving you the opportunity to gain current and relevant industry knowledge and understanding. This equips you with the core lab skills and industry specific interpersonal skills required to be successful on your chosen undergraduate degree pathway.

    Each lecture encompasses not only module specific theory and practical knowledge but is designed to also support the development of your IT, numeracy and communications skills.
