A group of young scouts from the 16th Watford South Scout Group from the UK Muslim Scout Fellowship visited our kitchens at Watford campus, taking part in a hands-on culinary session as they worked towards earning their Chef’s Badge.

The scouts were welcomed on campus where they were given the opportunity to learn practical cooking skills in a professional kitchen environment. Guided by members of our Professional Cookery team, the scouts gained first-hand experience of food preparation, kitchen safety and teamwork while creating their own dishes.

Andy, Sandy and Pedro led the session, sharing their expertise and helping the group develop new skills while ensuring the experience remained fun and engaging. The young participants worked together to prepare ingredients, follow recipes and understand the basics of professional cookery - all key elements required to achieve their Chef’s Badge.

The visit forms part of our ongoing commitment to engaging with local community groups and providing opportunities for young people to explore new interests and build confidence in practical environments.

Staff at the college said it was a pleasure to host the scouts and see their enthusiasm in the kitchen.

Opening our facilities to community groups helps young people discover skills they may not otherwise have the chance to try, it was fantastic to see the scouts getting stuck in, learning about cooking and enjoying the experience together.

The hospitality facilities are where students train for careers in the catering and hospitality industries. The college offers courses for both young people and adults looking to develop professional cookery skills and gain employment in the sector.

If a career in professional cookery is a personal dream, then we can provide the recipe to turn it into a reality. With courses for adults and young people, we can help you develop your skills and gain employment in the hospitality sector.
