Our Level 3 Graphic Design students recently submitted artwork in a poster competition ran by the University of Wolverhampton's School of Creative Industries.

The competition was open to college students across the country who study a Level 3 Art, Design and Media course. The challenge tasked students with creating a square-format, typographic poster conveying the message “be who you want to be.” The budding designers were encouraged to be experimental and convey originality in their outcomes, whilst exploring typography, composition, and creative poster design.

Of the submissions received from various colleges nationwide, 30 student designs were shortlisted. We are excited to share that two students from our Year 2 Level 3 Graphic Design class made it onto the shortlist.

Isaac, one of the shortlisted students said of his design:

“I wanted to create a poster that reflects my own journey with identity and confidence. Growing up, I loved flowers and plants, which people saw as a girly interest, and I was picked on for it. I hid that part of myself for years, but now I embrace it. The floral elements represent growth and acceptance. I created my own contemporary and playful type treatment to show individuality, creativity, and freedom. Everything works together to express the message of "be who you want to be" and owning it.”

He also says of the event:

“The exhibition was an energetic and welcoming place; It was a great experience and honour to see my design displayed at an exhibition for the first time.”

Lily, the other shortlisted student says:

“My design concept is to reflect the bond between humans and animals and how we need to continue to stay connected with them. The photos in the image are my own from Tenerife and the text is to reflect introspection and becoming different versions of yourself throughout different stages in your life.”

David Lee, Course Leader for Graphic Design says:

“I’m thrilled that Isaac and Lily have been shortlisted. It is a meaningful learning experience for our students that celebrates the creativity and diverse approaches in Level 3 student work. I am very happy to be a part of it.”

Congratulations to Isaac and Lily for this amazing achievement and all our students for celebrating their individuality and creativity through design.
