Level 2 Business students at West Herts College had the opportunity to attend a Business Admin Workshop at the Watford Campus, hosted by employer partner Fleetlee.
Fleetlee are a vehicle leasing broker based in Hemel Hempstead who cover the UK.
Students had the opportunity to try three real-world business admin scenarios.
- Task one was writing effective emails and professional expectations for customer meetings.
- Task two was diary management.
- Task three was database management.
Through these practical activities, students strengthened key workplace skills, including staying organised, working professionally, paying close attention to detail, and using IT effectively - all essential for a career in business administration.
Tom Lee, Director and Founder at Fleetlee said: “I worked with the students teaching them basic skills that are required for administrative job roles. I gave them realistic examples of jobs that occur within workplaces in hope for them to understand the importance and impact each task is to a company. Being a young entrepreneur and recently setting up my company, I want to encourage the next generation of workers with engaging and valuable tasks that they can benefit from in their future roles”.
Workshop events such as these play a very important role in developing and preparing the business students for their next steps, through gaining real-world experience, skills, and knowledge about the industry from an industry employer.
Toni Reda, Employer Liaison Facilitator at West Herts College said: “The Business Admin event was a fantastic experience, giving students a real insight into what a day in the life of a Business professional looks like. Opportunities like this allow students to experience simulated workplace tasks, understand key responsibilities, and build confidence in applying their skills in a practical setting. Engaging directly with employers helps bring their learning to life and supports them in making more informed decisions about their future career paths”.
This session was part of the College’s GAP programme, which offers a variety of activities to help prepare students for the jobs of the future, such as on-the-job training, industry placements, masterclasses, and live briefs.
At West Herts College, student support goes further than academic study, helping young people take control of their future by being informed of the different possibilities for them prior to them taking their next steps, to ensure it is the most suitable one for them.
