Students from across West Herts College’s creative courses came together this June to present their final major projects at the End of Year Creatives Show.
The exhibition featured work from a wide range of Art & Design and Media courses.
A range of disciplines were showcased including Art & Design, Photography, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Fashion, Product Design, Interior Design & Architecture, Digital Illustration & Animation, Foundation Diploma, and Film & TV. There are just some of the mediums demonstrating the variety of skills learnt during the students’ time on their respective courses.
Sara, a Level 3 Fine Art student, says: “My final major project I did for West Herts College is about movement and how we can feel constricted and restricted by society, so that’s why you can see the X across the mouth, and how you can see its moving around. It’s meant to represent a dancer, and I like how dancers feel a way of expression. They can express themselves in many ways, so that’s why I chose this topic”.
Thomas, a Level 3 Graphic Design and Digital Media student stated: “Overall over the two years that I did I really enjoyed it. It was lots of fun. You got to learn lots of technical skills like using the Adobe Cloud software and dealing with live projects. I definitely think the tutors were super nice and that made it that extra bit enjoyable”.
Dylan, a Level 3 Digital Illustration & Animation student mentioned: “My final project was a comic that I did. I inked it myself. I’ve got my Notan studies, which is a study of black and white. I did traditional inking and scanned it in and edited it, and lots of Photoshop and software skills. It was amazing”.
Emily, a Level 3 Foundation Diploma student added: “My piece is to do with seeing the world from a different perspective. It just shows that we can all coexist in the same world and not hurt anything, not do anything wrong and just live. What I’ve enjoyed about the course is I’ve been able to make friends. There are so many cool people here that have tried to help me achieve what all my goals have been. I think I’ve created my own style being on this course and its help me guide myself to create these wonderful pieces and be pushed onto the right path. I hope to go to Uni next year with the help of the teachers. It’s been amazing, I’ve loved it, and its been an experience that I can’t really take back”.
The event represented the culmination of our students’ academic and explorative journeys and gave them the opportunity to be proud of the work they’ve created. External visitors were also able to appreciate our students’ hard work and dedication.
Alan Smallwood, Head of Art & Design at West Herts College said: “It’s great to see our students’ creativity, innovation and hard work showcased at this year’s event. Opportunities like these help students develop confidence, gain valuable exhibition experience, and share their work with friends and family. The standard of the work on display is a real credit to both our students and tutors this college year!”
