Computing students at West Herts College were kindly provided an opportunity by HP and Misco to attend a World Of Work Day at the HP Customer Welcome centre, located in The Gherkin.
HP are a leading technology company that has a portfolio of products and services including personal systems, printers, and 3D printing solutions.
Misco are also a leading multi-vendor technology provider that offers a range of products, services and solutions to businesses and public sector organisations.
Throughout the day, students heard from industry professionals who shared their career journeys and highlighted the wide range of opportunities available beyond traditional technical roles.
It concluded with HP’s Dragon Den, an interactive team challenge in which students collaborated to develop and pitch a technology-based solution to a real-world problem.
This hands-on activity encouraged creativity, teamwork, problem solving and presentation skills, providing students with valuable experience and a deeper understanding of the innovation that drives the technology sector.
Ben Gowland, Public Sector & Head of Education at HP Inc UK Ltd said: “It was a privilege to spend time with such engaged, enthusiastic and talented students. They are a real credit to West Herts College and reflect the ambition, creativity, and collaborative spirit that employers are looking for in the workforce of the future. I was particularly impressed by the innovative thinking showcased during the Dragon’s Den activity, with students presenting ideas that demonstrated both imagination and commercial awareness. Throughout the day, it was fantastic to see them working together so effectively, applying new concepts with confidence and bringing our discussions to life in a meaningful way”.
The event was designed to inspire and inform students by giving them a practical and engaging insight into careers within the technology industry.
Kathryn Harrold, Employer Partnership Manager at West Herts College, said: “We are extremely grateful to Misco and HP for providing our students with such an engaging and inspiring experience. The opportunity to explore real career journeys and tackle real-world challenges helped bring the word of technology to life and showcased the many pathways available within the industry”.
This event was part of the College’s GAP programme which offers a variety of activities to help prepare students for the jobs of the future, such as on-the-job training, industry placements, masterclasses, and live briefs.
