Sociology is primarily the study of social structures. You will look at institutions such as the education system, the criminal justice system, and the mass media. Key concepts include the emergence and development of feminism, the stratification of society by class, ethnicity, age, and gender, and the role of government legislation and social policy.

  • Entry Criteria

    You’ll choose three A Levels and will need 5 GCSE grades (9-4) including grade 4 Maths and grade 5 in English.

  • What will I study?

    You will undertake four key areas of study:

    • Sociological theories, perspectives and methods
    • The design of the research used to obtain the data under consideration, including its strengths and limitations
    • Socialisation, culture and identity
    • Social differentiation, power and stratification.
  • Future Prospects

    Sociology students go on to a hugely diverse range of careers and degrees. Job roles await in media, teaching, police, social work, healthcare. There is also a wide variety of opportunities in all aspects of social research, such as youth services, the criminal justice system, education and much more.
