West Herts Alumna wins at Derwent Art Prize 2020
West Herts College Alumna Faye Bridgwater recently won the People’s Choice Award in the Derwent Art Prize 2020.
After having studied at West Herts College from 1995-1997, Faye went on to study Sculpture at Sheffield Hallam University and after a hiatus from the Art world, has rekindled her involvement in the last 3 years.
Faye studied at West Herts College over twenty years ago, but she describes her time at West Herts as “a brilliant time, instead of being forced to study subjects I wasn’t interested in, it was just Art all day, every week.” She also believes that West Herts created the foundation for her career “without West Herts, I would not be where I am today – the tutors and the work we did gave me the confidence and the skill to go onto University, I was the first member of my family to go to university and that was largely thanks to West Herts.”.
In 2019, she featured as a wildcard entrant for Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, before making the step up and gaining recognition by winning the John Purcell Paper Prize 2020, and most recently Derwent’s People’s Choice Award. One of over 4,000 entries, Faye’s work ‘Studying Murmurations’ was shortlisted and subsequently put to the public. Faye said “I was truly thrilled to win the People’s Choice Award, it was a fantastic opportunity to enter a prestigious competition and I’m very glad the public enjoyed my work as much as I enjoyed creating it.”
Faye is continuing to create beautiful art and you can find more of her work at fayebridgwater.com.
