Take a look back at NAW2017

National Apprenticeship Week has come to an end, take a look back at our 10 events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of NAW!

________________________________________________________________

Our Apprenticeship team visited Francis Combe Academy on Monday to talk to their students about apprenticeship opportunities here at West Herts College, a successful event saw many students sign up to attend our Apprenticeship Information Meeting!

Students at our Kings Langley and Watford campuses tuned into The Big Assembly! This was a Guinness World Record attempt to have the most people ever sign into a webinar, the webinar itself gave a fantastic insight into what an Apprenticeship is, who can access apprenticeships and all the additional benefits!

On International Women's Day our students were treated to an exclusive screening of the STEMettes special Eat.Sleep.STEM.Repeat - an insight into the challenges faced by young women aiming for a career in STEM and how they can be overcome. With more and more tech companies searching for apprentices, we're hoping to inspire students into finding out more about how a career in STEM is becoming more and more accessible.

Local engineering and manufacturing company Atlas Copco, visited our Kings Langley campus to talk to our students about how they could get an apprenticeship working with them! Not only did our students get to hear all about the industry, but they were treated to a first-hand account of being an apprentice for Atlas Copco by one of their current apprentices.

A shot from our Apprenticeship Information Meeting (AIM). We invited in potential apprentices and their parents to go over all there is to know about choosing an apprenticeship at West Herts College. There were plenty of informed questions about changes to apprenticeships, weekly wages, qualifications and employer support, our team were on hand to answer all these and more with one potential apprentice baker saying "I'm now 110% sure that an apprenticeship is right for me, I can't wait to start!"

Many local employers approached us wanting to find out more about the reforms to apprenticeships, so we invited in Plumbing employers to talk all things apprenticeships. Discussion covered the levy, industry standards, apprenticeship provisions and future employment, this breakfast briefing was part 1 of 2 with Electrical employers joining us on Friday for a similar style event.

Our 'Try Welding' workshop went down a storm, students and apprentices tried their hand at welding, not only did they get hands on in our state-of-the-art welding bays, but they also took part in a virtual welding competition!

Osborne joined us at our Hemel Hempstead campus to talk to our students about the world of possibilities open to apprentices in the Construction and Maintenance industries alike. Not only did they find out about opportunities at Osborne but they were provided with CV and interview advice!

Mike Penning MP dropped into the Hemel Hempstead JCP 'Apprenticeship Fair' to find out more about the Apprenticeship opportunities on offer at West Herts College. A successful outing for our apprenticeships team as lots of members of our local community engaged with them and found out about how far you can go by choosing an apprenticeship!

10 Jewson dropped into College to discuss their apprenticeship opportunities and what it's like to work for Jewson, a few of our students were even offered interviews to become apprentices!

That concludes a packed out week of Apprenticeships! We'd like to thank all of the local businesses who got involved and helped make this week possible, special thanks go to Osborne, Stemettes, Jewson and Atlas Copco for their time. We've had a fantastic week celebrating NAW2017, it was great to see so many students considering apprenticeships and meeting with employers face to face.

If you missed any of the action this week, don't worry! It doesn't stop here, we have apprenticeships starting right throughout the year.
