Students participate in Cambridge University Maths Challenge

Last week, West Herts College Engineering students paid a visit to Cambridge University Centre for Mathematical Sciences to participate in a Further Maths Challenge.

Students Jack Fisher, Joe Pullen, Nicole Ashton and Toby French were there preparing for the problem solving exams they will be expected to complete when applying to university engineering courses.

Over the course of the day, the students attended formal lectures and engaged in group work tasks solving A-Level maths problems.

Of the experience, Toby said: “It expanded my understanding of mathematical problems, and I really enjoyed the day”.

Nicole felt that she took the day in her stride stating: “It was very educational, I found the problem solving part quite easy, but good fun!”

Our students competed very well on the day, performing just as well as sixth form students from other schools, who are currently studying pure maths and further maths. Congratulations to them all!

If you aspire to a career in engineering, why not have a look at our courses here.
