Students pamper care home residents
West Herts College students visited Tremona Care Home and treated residents to a five star manicure.
Beauty Therapy students pampered the residents with a nail painting session and encouraged them to reminisce by sharing their life stories.
Ilona Sukelovic, Manager of Tremona Care Home, said: “Events like this give us the opportunity to build positive relationships with the community. It’s hugely beneficial for our residents as they love young people coming into their home and engaging with them.
“They were so excited that morning when we told them the students would be coming in to give them all manicures, they love having their nails painted! The ladies talked about it for the rest of the week and even some of the gentlemen enjoyed getting their nails trimmed and filed.”
Students visited the care home as part of a GAP experience. GAP is West Herts College’s sector-leading work experience programme, where students team up with local employers to develop their transferable workplace skills and help them get ready for the world of work.
Michaela Le'Vin, Learning Assistant at West Herts College, said: “The event was fantastic. Not only do the residents get a lovely manicure out of it, they get to engage and interact with young people.
“It’s great experience for the students as well. It gets them out of the classroom into a different environment and improves their technique and social skills.”
