Student competing at the Under 21 European Athletics Championships
Denisa Mihalcea, a Level 3 Photography student, has recently been selected to compete for the Romanian Athletics team at this summer’s Under 21 European Championships in Turkey.
Denisa is competing in three events: shot put, javelin and discus. It is her first time competing at this level but she’s definitely looking forward to it: “I’m super excited about the event, if a little nervous. It will be a great experience and If everything goes well I hope to make it as a professional athlete in the future.”
She is currently training two to three times a week, however she is planning to increase this to four or even five times a week as the championships approach.
In the upcoming months, Denisa will be taking part in a number of competitions as part of her preparation. She is going to be competing in athletics events for Harrow in her age group as well as in the Women’s League and the Southern League. On top of this, Denisa is balancing her Level 3 Photography work with playing for Hertfordshire’s county volleyball team.
Photography tutor Phillip Hill said: “Denisa continues to strive for excellence in all that she does, academically and personally. This is an excellent achievement, and we will all be supporting her and the team throughout the competition.”
Next year Denisa hopes to progress on to our Foundation Degree in Graphic Design.
