Ric Blaxill inspires West Herts College students
West Herts College Music students were left inspired once again, after attending their latest industry talk, this time from radio and TV music producer, Ric Blaxill.
Ric has an incredible CV, working across radio and TV, collaborating with some of the biggest names in the business. During his career, Ric had spells as the senior producer at BBC Radio 1, the executive producer for BBC 1's Top of the Pops and the creative director at Capital Radio and BBC 6 Music. He currently works for Bauer Media as the music and content director for its radio division.
Ric had some words of advice for our students: “If your band is looking to get signed, the one thing I would say is that you never know who might be in the audience at your gigs, so you always need to perform at your highest level and be organised.
“You must have self-belief and drive, when work dries up you need to keep trying and do anything to create opportunities. Be creative and try and find a gap in the market.
“Be active on social media profiles, but be wise and sensible. Record managements will have their eyes on these to see how much you’re pushing your band.”
A series of talks have been organised by Music tutor Steph Carter, and once again used his contacts to great effect, inviting the latest expert in to share his knowledge with our students.
Steph said: “Ric was able to give incredible insight to a host of different avenues for the students to explore. This talk was able to highlight the importance of taking chances and having the faith and confidence in yourself to persevere.
“Ric’s advice on networking and maintaining personal integrity was brilliant. The students in attendance were lucky to have such wisdom passed down to them.”
