Meet our Food Academy tutors!

We are proud to have a professional team of tutors who are passionate about making a difference to the lives and careers of all our students.

Our tutors come from various backgrounds, each with something different to offer our students.

Andrew Wakeford

Head of School for Food Academy, Restaurant Services and Hospitality

I joined West Herts College in 2006 as a Chef Lecturer and within a year became Programme Coordinator & Employment Engagement Leader. I began life after school studying on a Professional Chefs Diploma programme for three years at Westminster College. I worked at Dorchester, Connaught and Churchill Hotels in Central London and was Head Chef at the BBC in White City.

I’ve also had the opportunity to cook at Regents College, Lloyds of London, Foster Wheeler Energy, Amerada Hess, Eaton Fine Dining, Wellington (South Africa) and the Watford Masonic Hall.

Over the years I have built strong industry links which enable opportunities for work experience and part/full time employment for all our students.

 

Pedro Carmichael

Professional Cookery Tutor and Chef

I was born in Barbados where my love for culinary began. My family home allowed me to experiment with food freely, without supervision. As a family we say cooking is in our blood which has produced generations of chefs and cooks, tracing back to my great-great-grand mother.

I have worked in contract catering for three well-known contractors in the UK since 2000. I’ve been working as a chef at West Herts College for four years. I take pride in my job and always aim to give our students the best experience possible. 

 

Jason Stetzel

Professional Cookery Tutor

I started working as a chef in a 150 seat, all-night diner in a small town in the U.S.A. Since then I have worked in several small restaurants in both the US and the UK. After more than 20 years in the industry, I decided to move into teaching and work at West Herts College. I have since gained my teaching qualifications and a BA (Hons) in Education. I have always strongly believed in training new chefs and love watching our students grow.
