Learner Support Fund 2016/17
The College has a Government grant to offer funding to its students to help them with their studies. The funding is means tested and is usually available to those students with an annual household income of less than £35,500.
The following guidelines are to help you complete the Learner Support Fund application form, which you can download here. This form will need to be returned to the College along with any evidence required - you can return the form to a Student Support Advisor at any of our campuses. Who can apply?
Students aged 16 and over who are settled and/or have been resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years and enrolled on a funded course (the majority of 16-18 year olds will be enrolled on funded courses, if you are 19 or over please discuss with a Student Advisor)
What can you apply for?
If you or your parents/carers receive income related benefits or have a gross household income of £35,500 or less you may be eligible for help towards the following:
- Enrolment fees
- Travel costs
- Kit and Equipment
- Other course costs
- Childcare (Please contact a student support advisor for information
- Free meal
Students 16-18 yrs old: If you are under 19 you will only need to complete the application form if you are applying for additional course costs, travel, trips, or kit and equipment, as you will not have to pay any tuition or exam fees at enrolment.
Students 19+: You will need to complete the application form if you would like help towards the cost of your enrolment fees (tuition & exam) and do not receive either Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance (Work Related Activity Group). You may also apply for help with other course costs, travel or childcare. You will need to provide evidence of your own income and/or benefits.
How much will I get?
You may be eligible for up to 100% of your enrolment fees and travel costs and 70% of other course costs, depending on your income or if you are on a qualifying benefit. If you are aged 16-25 we will consider your annual household income. If you are aged 25+ we will consider your current personal income.

Funding will not usually cover all of your course costs – please bear this in mind when budgeting for coming to college and talk to us about how we can help you. If you are required to purchase kit or equipment prior to the start of your course, you will need to provide proof of purchase/receipts. If you are requesting support with travel costs please note you will also need to apply for any relevant discount cards e.g. Herts Savercard/16+ Oyster card etc.
When will I find out if I have been awarded funding?
The College aims to process all applications within 10 working days of receiving a completed application form and supporting evidence.
Please be aware that if you are in receipt of welfare benefits, you have a responsibility to declare any award made to you from our Learner Support Fund.
The college expects good attendance throughout the year and your award may be affected if your attendance drops at any time; travel awards will be reduced for every full day absence.
