International call-up for former West Herts College student
Former Centre of Football Excellence student Montel Joseph was called up to play for Trinidad and Tobago’s U23 National team for their recent 2016 Olympic qualifiers.
Montel Joseph, a goalkeeper, was selected to play in Trinidad and Tobago’s recent qualifying games against St Vincent and the Grenadines and Puerto Rico. After their first game against Suriname was cancelled, due to Montel’s opposing team having to pull out of the tournament, the young Trinidad and Tobago team were unlucky to beaten 5-3 in an end to end game against St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The team were looking to bounce back quickly and did so by beating the hosts Puerto Rico 5-0 in a display of sheer footballing superiority along with a clean sheet. However due to other results going against them, this was not enough to qualify. Montel and the team finished second in their group after a great effort, circumstances did not favour them this time round and the team were unlucky to be knocked out.
A great experience for Montel nonetheless and he will be looking to take this experience to continue his development as a young, up and coming goalkeeper. We wish Montel the best of luck in the future with all his career aspirations and goals.
Montel was a student at West Herts College from 2012 to 2014 studying on our Centre of Football Excellence programme, run in association with Watford FC. The course enables students to develop their football skills whilst studying physical education, sports coaching and sports development.
