Meet Roman Sys, a graduate of the Level 1 Hairdressing course at West Herts College.

Roman SysHaving not enjoyed school, Roman was keen to start on the Level 1 course and be able to do something that he loved.

Despite starting college with low confidence, the support from his tutors and the confidence they had in his abilities allowed Roman to develop his own confidence and focus on turning it into a future career. During the course, Roman developed a foundation of skills in shampooing, blow-drying, and cutting hair.

After completing the course, he was well equipped with the skills to progress onto an Apprenticeship at well-known salon, Vidal Sassoon. The staff quickly spotted his talent for blow-drying, allowing him to progress quickly within the apprenticeship.

Roman’s hard work has led him to his current job at well-known hair salon, Brooks & Brooks, in which he is surrounded by a wonderful mix of people with different artistic styles. Roman was recently honoured to be nominated for Creative Head Magazine’s ‘It List Awards’, in which he was a double finalist in ‘The Visionary’ and ‘The One To Watch’ categories, while also having worked backstage at London Fashion Week.

Reflecting upon his experience, Roman describes his time at college as: “one of the best decisions I’ve ever made”, as it allowed him to discover his “passion for the artistic side of hairdressing” and work in the industry he’s always wanted to.
