Hair and Beauty students ‘wow’ at College competition
Beauty Therapy students took part in a makeup competition which required them to create a look to fit a predetermined theme, to be judged by a panel of industry professionals.
The students were given six weeks to prepare for the competition, which had two themes: ‘futuristic’ for Media Makeup students, and ‘catwalk glam throughout the ages’ for Beauty students.
They were required to create a makeup design and then craft an overall look that complimented their design, including styling their model’s hair and picking out an outfit. Their day began at 9:30am, when they began applying makeup to their models, and culminated with a catwalk show in the afternoon to show off their designs in front of their peers and a panel of judges.
The judges, from AMRA skincare, Façade Academy and iiaa respectively, had made their decisions earlier in the day, and the catwalk show was a chance for the students to admire each other’s work before the winners in each category were announced. Nichole Hoo-Hing was the chosen winner from the Media Makeup class, and Dorothy Palminteri was selected from the Beauty class with her design.
All three judges praised the students for their “outstanding effort”, saying that “choosing their winners was a difficult decision” and that they greatly enjoyed the variety of the work displayed by the students.
