Contemporary fashion designer Helen Woollams gives masterclass to students
Designer Helen Woollams recently visited our L3 Fashion students to deliver a Masterclass that explored the fashion industry and how to get your name out there.
The Masterclass, filmed by our Media students, saw Helen give an inspiring talk, offering students advice on degrees, how to get employed and the ideas behind her latest collection ‘Wolves in the Walls’.
During the talk, Helen commented on the importance of networking to gain contacts and advised students to always be on the lookout for internships to ensure they get their name out there.
Helen reminded students that there are plenty of routes into fashion and reinforced the importance of researching your options to find out what works best for you.
An alumni of London College of Fashion, with over 15 years’ industry experience with her brand ‘Hellavagirl’, Helen has just debuted her latest collection ‘Wolf in the Walls’ at London Fashion Week. Speaking to students about her thoughts and the inspiration behind her latest collection, she said: “There are always people out there waiting for you to slip up. It’s important to stay true to yourself in art and fashion.”
Following on from the talk, Helen offered advice to students on their work. This allowed them to ask any questions they had in an informal setting, as Helen walked round to speak to each one of them; she commented: “I was really impressed by not only the standard of work but a diverse range of students wanting to take different career paths in the industry, and some really passionate students.” She also added in that she was “pretty jealous of the fab facilities!”
