College student secures Apprenticeship
West Herts College student JJ Wilks has secured an Apprenticeship with Hightown Housing Association as a multi-trade maintenance apprentice.
JJ works four days a week at Hightown and spends one day studying at the College for his multi-trade qualification.
22-year-old JJ said: “Before this apprenticeship I was previously doing shop work and studying carpentry at College. I wanted a job where I could use the skills I had learnt and do something I had a real interest in.
“I’ve learnt so much already and have made lots of good contacts in the trade, just through working at Hightown.”
On a typical day at Hightown, JJ is in the head office working on general maintenance jobs such as painting, changing lightbulbs and ensuring the training rooms are set up correctly.
Mark Rooney, Estates and Facilities Manager at Hightown, said: “JJ has been fantastic to work with as he has a great attitude and is really proactive. You never have to ask him to do something twice.”
West Herts College tutor, Carl Rimes said: “JJ is the ideal student. He is always keen to learn and has plenty of talent. He will progress and pass his apprenticeship with flying colours.”
